The Myrtle Grove Branch Library opened in 1993 with 6,900 square feet, 24,000 books and a staff of three. Fast forward to a typical month in 2017, when seven employees serve 13,000 visitors, check out 25,000 items and provide programs for 1,100 children and teens. With no room for growth on the current site, Myrtle Grove patrons asked for a larger space and more programs for children and adults.
In response, New Hanover County acquired a nearby property and hired a visionary architectural team. Plans were developed for an up-to-date facility to meet the demands of our growing community.
