NHCPL does not prevent children from checking out library material that might be considered inappropriate due to age of the patron or the subject matter. The library leaves the decision to parents and guardians to make the choice for their children.
Policy Manual, section 13.2 A( see Collection Development – Juvenile Collection): New Hanover County Library supports the American Library Association’s Free Access to Libraries for Minors and affirms “the responsibility and the right of all parents and guardians to guide their own children's use of the library and its resources and services."
