NHCPL's computer system automatically sends overdue notices when the software thinks an item is still out. Possible reasons for the notice even though the item was already turned in:

  • The items may have slipped past library staff. As staff check in hundreds of items every day a small percentage sneak past us, onto the shelves, without getting checked in. Please contact your local branch and just let us know, "I turned that in already" and we'll take care of it.
  • The item may not have made it back to us after all. True story: we often hear, "My spouse/child/friend turned that in for me last week!" only to find out later that the spouse/child/friend didn't actually get it turned in yet. No worries - you can still call us and let us know, "I turned that in already" and we'll take care of it until the item is actually returned.

If you have any concerns about an item that is still out on your account, please call your local branch and staff will take care of the situation for you.
