The library has the Star News and other historic newspapers for the area on microfilm. The public is welcome to come in and use the microfilm machine to view and print articles. If you are not able to do so, you can call or email the North Carolina Room and for copy costs and postage, we can look up an article and send it to you.

There is no index to the newspaper. If you don't know the date of your article, there are several options to find it:

  • If your story was published after 1994, you might be able to find it by searching the Star News through the library's subscription to Newsbank
  • You can come in and browse through the issues on microfilm.
  • The library might have a newspaper clipping file on a subject you are interested in.
  • There might be newspaper clippings in the Bill Reaves Files on the subject or story if it is in the appropriate time period.
